Metro 2039 First Gameplay Revealed - Hunter Trailer Stuns Fans as February 2027 Launch Confirmed!
4A Games unveiled the first gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 at the Xbox Games Showcase, featuring nearly three minutes of in-game footage. The trailer reveals antagonist Hunter in his Novoreich uniform, the new Shatun stealth weapon, and confirms a February 2027 release.
The Metro is darker than ever. 4A Games and Deep Silver dropped the first full gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 at the Xbox Games Showcase, giving fans nearly three minutes of footage captured entirely in-game. The reveal also locked in the game's launch window: February 2027.

Meet the Fuhrer: Hunter
The trailer, titled "HUNTER," puts the spotlight squarely on the game's antagonist. Hunter, the first Spartan and once a legendary Ranger sworn to protect the Metro, now appears in a decorated Novoreich uniform described as a fascist perversion of the iconic Spartan armor. He rules the tunnels through lies, propaganda, and fear, and protagonist The Stranger won't stop until the Fuhrer burns.
Classic Metro Gameplay Returns
The footage showcases everything that makes Metro, Metro: claustrophobic stealth-action, tunnel and surface exploration, and diegetic survival mechanics. After Metro Exodus experimented with open-world design, Metro 2039 returns the series to its original, story-driven formula. The trailer takes players through deadly wildlands, irradiated Moscow streets, struggling station communities, and the terrifying depths of the tunnels.

New Toys and New Threats
Eagle-eyed fans spotted plenty of new additions, including the first look at the Shatun stealth weapon firing in anger, a new breaching charge, new items, new mutant variants, and fresh ways to explore and exploit the environment.
A Massive Milestone
The hype is real. Metro 2039 has already passed 1 million wishlists on Steam, a milestone reached remarkably fast after the April reveal. Fan reaction to the gameplay has been overwhelmingly positive, with many blown away by the visuals.
Metro 2039 launches February 2027 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The game is being developed in Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing invasion, with 4A Games continuing to support its homeland throughout development.
